Sales
Recently repadded and in excellent condition, this flute is ready for a new chapter in its story. With silver body, mechanism, and headjoint, and playing like new, we think this is a bargain, especially considering the cost of comparable new flutes.
This Rudall Carte Crown is hallmarked for 1963. It is clearly the work of an experienced craftsman, possibly Brian Clover who had apprenticed at the old Rudall Carte workshop in Berners Street during the 1950s. It is very well put together. The design of the RH touch for Bb, for example, shows a high level of artistry and care, with its lovely shape and neat cut-out to keep the lever low while making room for the F sharp key arm. The flute feels comfortable under the fingers, and plays with that warm and solid strength long associated with the London makers.
The flute is closed hole, C-foot, with rolled toneholes, offset G, and an added Brossa lever to give a lovely clear F sharp.
Earlier this year the flute was serviced and repadded by Lynne Williams, who as usual has done a superb job. The flute plays easily and gives complete confidence. It comes in its original case.
