Boxwood with four silver flat keys. Short D footjoint. Ivory rings, end cap, and crown. Made c1830.

Marked:  15 PIAZZA/COVENT GARDEN/ LONDON

The flute plays at A = c.430. Intonation, with small toneholes, is remarkably good. The short footjoint makes for a well-balanced instrument in the hands.

This unusual R&R has been well maintained by its current owner and plays nicely. The embouchure hole is original and unmolested. Keys are original and in excellent condition. The body sections are excellent with no cracks in the blocks, tenons, or sockets. Headjoint cracks have been professionally repaired in the past and have proved stable, and with a full lining inside do not affect playing. The crown is a well-made modern replacement.

This lovely flute is ready to play and, after two hundred years, give many more enjoyable hours to its new owner.
